I know they changed their name to something else, but I was informed that the magazine was being discontinued completely. Does anyone know what happened or what explanaton was given.

I always thought it was weird that the same company owned both that and Home Theater Magazine. I wonder if that was it?

I subscribe to both Ultimate AV and HT and I received a letter saying that Ultimate would no longer be sent out and any remaining issues owed to me would be added to my subscription to HT. I wonder what happens to those who are owed issues but dont subscribe to another magzine

Well at least they got rid of the right one - Ultimate AV (Stereophile) still uses 6500K charts for display reviews - while Home Theater Mag added the CIE chart some time ago. Now if they would just get in sync with WideScreen Review charts - maybe they will stay in business!

Sadly HT Mag seems to have stopped their blind shootouts in favour of a "roundup". This month has three $3.5K projectors evaluated - in standard review format - but no blind shootout peanut gallery comments?! Guess advertisers must have complained - the mag yells on the cover "Advice on what to buy!" - but the scores are all about the same - and you have to read behind the lines.

The magazine's move to on line publication really does make a bit of sense. HT is a pretty fast-moving subject. Receiving reviews of CES happenings sometime in the late spring was both annoying and useless. Maybe this will be a positive thing. Art

Consolidation? Looks like home theater might already be on it's way to passe'. I guess it's been all the rage for the last 4-5 years, which would be about right for being old news. But if home theater is old news, what's the new news?

Yeah, but you have to be computer literate to get the online version where owning a HT doesn't require much outside of money.

I think their move is strictly operational costs than anything else. With a loss of physical publication they also lose advertising, but for their rag and from their advertisers.

Then again, I stopped buying rags a long time ago. AVS is better. :D

I agree that most of the info is old at least compared to the whats on the forum, but its nice to be able to read about the projector and see a picture of it. I was amazed they reviewd all of those projectors. Most of the time, they are reviewing machines that have been out for almost a year. At least most of these machines are current

Well even if what you say is true Peter your work would be a few issues but it isn't. I think the reason( s) is something else. An example is we have talked a projector to death before we see a review in the print mags and a CEDIA review is months behind the stuff around here. Although this is the best it is only one of many internet sites on HT.

Let me add to this old thread. I only subscribed to Stereophile Home Theater and when they ended publication I began receiving two new subscriptions "Home Theater" and "Stereophile".

I hate both magazines with a vengeance. First, anything over $10,000 is automatically given a great review. Anything under $10,000 is automatically given a great review. Apparently they don't test any junk (or could it be their advertisers come first). Secondly, the layout of HT is awful - constantly throwing in clipart/ads/pictures around the articles because someone there knows how to use Quark Express and likes to wrap text around images.

In the past, great reviews for everything wouldn't have bothered me, but about two years ago a friend told me to subscribe to Maximum PC. They will trash products that deserve to be trashed, put power supply's through torture tests and only give out their "Kick Ass" award to the greatest hardware or software.

Now if only they would come out with "Maximum Home Theater".
