I'm looking to upgrade to a HDMI Receiver, but have not followed the latest news on availability. I need one that is NOT just a passthrough. I want it to process audio from the HDMI.

It would be almost easier to list the ones that don't processs audio over HDMI.


Most anything around the $350 range and up is HDMI 1.3.

the entry point on these manufacturers are: Onkyo SR507, Denon 590, Pioneer 819, and Yamaha V465. Not sure where the H/K's start.

I need to modify my "entry point" spec for the Pioneer line of a/v receivers.


Wow ! brand new Pioneer VSX-520 a/v receiver does it all for an entry level price of less that $230. That little bomb shell will rock the market a bit !

HK's entry level AVR is the 1600. It has a 'hand-me-down' amp section from the older 247 and 254 AVRs. Very good amps.
