What HDMI switcher box works?

4267 Views 46 Replies 34 Participants Last post by  Dom P
I have a Sony 46" LCD tv and it only has 1 HDMI cable in the back. I am getting HD satelite hooked up soon and also have an HD camcorder that uses HDMI cable. Now that my tv is hanging on the wall its impossible to swap cables in the back without taking the entire tv down off the wall.

Can someone please give me a model that works well with the ps3. Also, do you lose any video QUALITY with a switcher box? Just curious, never done anything like that before... thanks

Monoprice has been a popular destination for AV accessories of high quality at a great price. Try this link: http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...d=10110&style=

The only caveat around these switches were that they were not HDMI 1.3 tested/compliant yet, but I think for

As for PQ and AQ, HDMI is a digital format, unless somehow you lose bits along the way, quality isn't a factor. It's when you send analog signals that quality can be lost over distances. (for those technocrats out there, yes I do know you can lose bits over distance too, but I don't hear anything about 200+ ft runs or anything so I figure it is not worth going over).

Good Luck!

it wont let me type in an ebay link, but i just went to ebay and searched for "1.3 hdmi switcher" and there are a few 3 port ones in the $30-40 range... would they work for me?
I been using the Monoprice switcher, the one with 5 ports. It works beutifully, never had a problem, and you can`t go wrong with its price compared to other switchers.

Probably, I haven't ever used a HDMI switch, so I'm not sure if they ever have any problems, but otherwise I wouldn't imagine they do. Just check the return policy before you pick anything up.

I love monoprice...but.

My first 5 to 1 HDMI switcher worked great untill the output snapped some conecters. So I returned it for a new one that didn't work with the PS3, so I returned that one for the 4 to 1 that they swore "allways works" and "never had a problem with" the PS3, and it dosn't work. So now I'm un shore of my next step.
I've been using a 3 x 1 Gefen...seems invisible within the signal path so I've been very happy with the picture quality from upconverting DVD player and PS3 to my Sony Display. I admit it was pricey, about 270.00, but the remote and 3 six foot HDMI cables were nice to get with it. I will say the LED lights on the face of the switcher are WAY bright.
I have the Octava 3x1 ( http://www.octavainc.com ) works great, never had any problems. Descent deal IMO with the HDMI cables, although I believe that Monoprice might be cheaper.

I will caution that statement by saying that I have had the switch for all of two weeks to date.
I use Sima 3X1 switcher with PS3, oppo 970 hooked up to my sony's one hdmi port. Have used it for about 6 weeks. No problems so far. Got mine at CC for apx. 150
I use 2 5x1 Monoprice switchers for my ps3's, and they've worked flawlessly.
monoprice... 'nuff said
I'm using a 4in/1out switch from Radiient. Works perfectly with my PS3, Toshiba HD-A2 and Sony 60inch XBR1.
Octava 3X1 switcher. Works flawlessly. Zero signal degradation. The switch actually claims to improve the quality of the signal. That may be more marketing hype than anything else though. As long as the ones and zeroes make it through.

But I love the Octava switcher. It has autoscan, so which ever component is powered on it switches to that port. No manual switching.
The 2x1 manual switcher from Monoprice.com works great and is not expensive.

I have the Monoprice 5X1 switcher as well and it's perfect. It generally detects which port is active, but when it doesn't, it's only a remote control button click away. Since it's IR you can program it on a learning universal remote as well. That $25 one from Sony you can pick up at Best Buy and several other retailers works well.
I'm using the 4x1 Monoprice switcher. It's a newer version than the 5x1. I haven't had a problem yet. I know the 5x1 had some problems with the ps3.
Hello:

I tried a Gefen switch and I hated it. I sent it back. Too buggy.

I ordered a monoprice 5x1 and will see how that works.

I have the 5x1 monoprice, $80 or something compared to hundreds from everyone else, it's really not even a comparison. I have it programmed into my uni remote so other than the PS3 being BT, switching to and from in my HT system is a click of a button.

Same here. Didn't need a 5th input right this minute and saved a little. Got the latest version of the 4X1 Monoprice switcher. Works great with the PS3, Xbox 360 Elite, DirecTV H20 and Oppo HD970.
