What headphones are best?

1699 Views 18 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  CADOBHuK
I'm not sure this is the right forum to post this question, but didn't see anywhere else that's more appropriate. So here goes, I'm looking for a pair of earbud headphones. I've had over-the-ear headphones, but now due to the work environment rule, I can only use the earbud type. Price is not a factor.

Thank you!

Do you want ear-bud headphones? Or ear canal?
if price is not an option either shure se530 or ultimate ears tiple.fi10. both are canal phones. check headfi.org for opinions on the sonic differences. if the work rule is due to sound leakage, you could also look to closed headphones.

Whoa, I was indeed shocked! That costs the same as my receiver. I didn't know something like that existed. I'll modify my statement from "price is not a factor" to "below $500".

Thanks,

Dalat- i'd recommend the shure in-ear headphones, they have i believe 4 offerings between $99-$499 that are great options.
The high end earphones like the UE11 are "In Ear Monitor" type which requires a tight seal (in fact, for these ones, you have to get a mould done at your audiologist).

For a long time time, I've been recommending Audio Technica ATH-CK7 which are only $70 but a thoroughly enjoyable listen. Above that, I'd go with the Ultimate Ears Triple Fi 10 Pro ($375). I don't like the Shures much unless you like a more laid back warm sound (a bit too rolled off in the highs for my taste).

i'll second these since the price has been given also for under that the ue 5 pro

is a good buy comparable to the se 530 shures at a price savings.
Etymotic ER-4S is another great option for under $500.

The Eytmotics are really great. I'll second that. After long listening sessions I experience some listening fatigue with them, but you probably will not find canal headphones for which that's not the case.
i just picked up the top of Shure's line SE530PTH's. actually got them for about 40% MRSP off Amazon. i'm excited to try them out, i've never had audiophile earphones before.
Had at least 7 pairs of cans at one time, I am now using my Etymotic ER4Ps with my portable player and they are awesome. Probably one of the best purchases I have ever made.
I know they are not the best on the market but I really enjoy the sound of my shure E4's. I prefer the sound of them over my focal diva's.

I just wish they had a tad bit more lower end. But I understand the size of the drivers doesn't allow for it.
Try the new Sleek Audio 6. They have received some good reviews on head-fi forum.

I have a pair myself and I am loving it!
