Hi,

I was going to post this a question on an existing thread for the 34HFX84. But then I figured maybe this can becaome a thread with answers for different models and can be found with a search.

Looks like I am going to get my Tosh 34HFX84 after all (or so they say...) and I was wondering what height the stand would need to be for the middle of the TV to be at eye level.

Now I am sure I could figure it out myself if I went to store and measured where the middle of the screen is on the floor model and calculate from there but I am sure someone here might already know!

My couch is about 20 inches off the floor (well the part I sit on) and I am about 5'10 if that helps.

I almost got a stand but it was only 21" tall. I get the feeling the TV will be too low. What do you guys think?

It seems that TV height is a matter of personal preference. I grew up with console TVs which were pretty low slung so i prefer my TV to be on the low side. When i'm reclined in my recliner the center of the screen is at eye level, but when i'm sitting upright in the same chair i'm looking slightly downward to the center of the screen. When i first got my current TV table it was 7" higher but it bugged me to be looking up at the TV, so i cut 7" off the sides to shorten it's overall height.

Alternately, i have a friend who has her 32" HD tube TV on the top shelf of her armoire literally 5 feet off the ground and loves it that way. It's freaky to watch movies looking up at such a high screen. Feels like i'm in a hospital waiting room :D

Just sit there and imagine you're watching your new TV and kinda get an idea of what height seems comfortable to you........

too high :D

right now we have a 20" on the top of a book shelf about 4' to 5' off the ground. I find that too high. However the wife would like our new stand to be about the hight of a coffee table. that is too low for me.

I would love it to be dead center but if was to be off I would prefer an inch highr than lower. I definately don't want to look down at it.

I just bought a new TV stand for a TV I'm gonna buy in a couple months or so. I got it from Ikea and the design is pretty simple and cool except for this little one on the top that looks fruity... other than that, it's all cool. I kinda was thinking about stepping it up to a 34" model, but I thought twice about it because I really wasn't sure how much most stands can hold up the whole weight of the TV and the other things you put on it, if you don't use one of those additional shelves where you keep your console, dvd player, vcr and whatnot.

Not only that, mine was, I think, specifically designed to entertain only a 30" widescreen or a 32" 4:3 at the highest... anything more than that, it might crap out. I decided to give this a try because I liked it and it fit my budget, too (buying a paintball marker is expensive enough to keep me broke for a while). Another thing is that to accomodate that, you might wanna think about one of those things without a top... yea, those topless stands. It's just got a little thing with component racks in it and the stand about 2 feet off the ground. I was thinking about one of those but I couldn't find any that had 4 racks like this one so I stuck with it.

But overall, your priorities should be the height and the max weight it can hold. And try to push the weight limit a bit in your searches... because if the total weight of your equipment is 220 lbs and its max weight is 220 lbs, too, you better go to church every day. Other than that, I got nothing to say...

The "LAW" here is that the vertical center of the viewable screen needs to be at eye level when youre seated at your typical position(assuming the screen is perpindicular.) So its interactive with each particular set.

For instance, my tv stand for the 36" set is 23" tall, the vertical center of the screen is at 39".

Feel free to liberally amend the law for your uses. Tilting the set(not recommended with CRTs but very doable with wall-mounted plasmas) changes the law too. Make the angle such that the vertical center hits eye-level when tilted.
