Many/most here will probably tell you the current Fujitsu model is the "best" overall, and also has the highest price tag. You need to go into some stores and evaluate for yourself however. Just make sure the demo panels are all reasonably well calibrated. Look at the Fujitsu, the Pioneer, the Panasonic, and the Samsung and let your eyes decide.

The highest price tag? Nope... Retailers sell the Pioneer Elite 50" and Sony XBR 50" for more than the Fujitsu. In fact, some sell the Mitsubishi for more.

The Fujitsu, in my mind, is the best bet overall.

The new Panasonic, however, intrgues... but it is not yet shipping.

I've been researching the best plasmas here and have come to the conclusion that everyone recommends either the Panasonics, Fujitsu and rarely the Pioneers. For the Panasonics you have the TH-50PX20U coming out soon. Fujitsu has the P55XHA out in 2004. I have given up on the Pioneers for now.

I've been researching the Marantz PD5040D - but I don't think anyone here knows much about anything but those listed above.

I have the Panny 42" ED (PW5), but still put the Hitachi a close second in my book. Of course the Pio and Fuji are great too...but for some reason, I still prefer the Hitachi....

but for real value, the Panny I got is awesome....if only I could have afforded a 50"

May I ask what is the difference between the P50-30 and the P55?

Is the only difference is size of the plasma or does like one of these have better resolution and more features, etc?

Thanks

It intrigues me how people recommend products that they have not seen, or that have not been released.

Over the past few months, it seems to me that the general opinions on plasmas change over a period of time, but without new products, reviews or experience to account for it.

The Fujitsu p50xha30us has the "new" Panasonic glass

and 10 bit (vs 8 bit) video processing compared to current

P50xha10us.

The P55xha is a Fujitsu glass with same resolution as

P50(768by1366).

Personally i thought the 55 looked good in the show

environment. Fujitsu said they are still tweaking it.

This information i got from Mike Gleason, Director of Sales,

PDP Division at CEDIA.

What about past experience and some educated guessing? It doesn't happen often that a new generation panel is worse than the older one by the same company. Does it?

And only the New P55 uses the new "E-Alis" system, Correct?

To my eyes, the 50 inch Pioneer Pro-1000 Elite was better than Fuji or Panasonic. I would not say it was $2000 better though.

This reminds me of going to an auto-related message board where everyone is arguing about the Mercedes versus the BMW and then when anyone mentions Jaguar, the whole board jumps down their throat.

Every Pioneer plasma I have ever seen, anywhere, has always displayed an absolutely beautiful picture.

People here have some seriously anal fixation on "black" levels when in real life almost nothing is ever seen as black. The picture should look like reality.

For "my eyes" the Pioneer has an amazingly beautiful picture and it's sad that people are so quick to dismiss it because of these brand-biased threads.

This AVS Forum is losing its value due to this "Two Brands Only" mentality.

I didn't know I have "serious anal fixation". And I like Pio. And there are many Pio owners here.

But point taken. Thank you for your free tele-diagnosis. I am scheduling a visit with my proctologist.

I definitely agree with that statement. But it automatically doesn't mean that on reputation, it is better than the others in it's class. My point is that TIME will tell how good a particular model will be. That is the beauty of a mature product.
