Your going to get a mixed opinion. Ultimately, the only one that matters is your own. Have you read both owner's threads yet? The A-10 is highly regarded and I have read many posts by people who have returned their Samsung for an A10 but now there are new Samsung DLPs coming out (with 1080P) that may be better. My advice would be to read as many of these threads as you can, get to the stores, ogle the TVs and decide for yourself. Technology with these things are so fast and with prices dropping every day, it makes buying an HDTV set excruciating. Good luck. :)
I don't own, the Samsung, but I can tell you that the Sony A10 is a very nice TV.....I love mine!
Samsung or Sony? Like others have said it will be up to you. Both are excellent TV's all the way around. I would lean towards the Samsung but not by much. They each have slight advantages or disadvantages.

Samsung HLS 42" would be the winner for brightness. So if you have bright light conditions and/or sunlight issues.......then that may be the clear choice. If you view in total darkness, you might would lean towards the Sony........but that would leave you with the famous Sony "red push" - some like it others do not. If you have the opportunity to watch both models side by side with lots of dark scene movies, CSI, Law and Order, etc. you will be able to pick up on that difference.

Both Sony and Samsung have excellent high speed tuners - you will be able to channel surf with both HD and regular TV. Surprisingly that are several TV makers you can not do that with.

Sports, for high speed action the newest DLP's seem to win hands down. LCD panel designs often have problems with high speed trails.

Three panel designs (like Sony) can be subject to convergence issues.........however it is almost impossible to see that in a 42".

Samsung has color wheel..........for some viewers they claim this is a problem.......try looking at white letters on a black background, and move your eyes from side to side quickly...........do you see rainbows...........does it drive you nuts..........have your wife do that..........does she drive you nuts? That could be a problem?

Sony typically does better with Bad video feeds like bad compression etc......Samsung typically does a little better with high quality live video feeds

Ric, the problem is that one is not better than the other. They each have their own pros and cons, and it just comes down to personal preferences. So the real question is which looks best to your eyes?
