Panny CP-72 has DCDi (Faroudja), DVD-A, and costs round $200-250. Panny CP-67 is similar to CP-72 without DVD-A and has CCS turned on (may noticed red flickers now and then, most people don't even notice this problem) and costs even less. Both of these are chroma bug free. JVC, Sony, and Tosh also have good progressive changers but they don't have Faroudja.

I like my Sony DVP-CX875P. The picture quality is great, and it's a 300+1 disk mega changer that can be had for $400.

I've seen no Chroma bug on this at all.

It does not do SACD.

Panny CP-72 is discontinued and hard to find new. Secrets only tested Sony players, not changers, but most have the chroma bug.

You don't mention what you want to spend, but if you are willing to drop $500, Yamaha's flagship DVD changer, the DVD-CX1, can now be had for that price from an authorized dealer. It originally retailed for $1,300 and recently sold for $900.

It is really high end (Faroudja DCDi, Burr-Brown DACs, no chroma bug) and built like a tank (double top and bottom cover, copper plated shielding, 23 lbs)! It also handles DVD-A.

The new panasonic's (non faroudja, sadly) are fairly decent. the F65(S/K) is a 5 disc player with DVD-A. I have the non DVD-A version (F35K) and I have seen no evidence of the chroma bug. Also I've seen 2 independant reports on the net stating that these models are chroma bug free. I'm happy with my player. *shrug*

The Panasonic CP-72 can still be occasionally found - I bought mine about 2 weeks ago from Crutchfield's scratch and dent store. It's worth checking in every once in awhile -- it sold out in mid June, but reappeared in early July. Shrug.

The Yamaha is a good alternative, although still much more expensive. It rated pretty much identically to the Panasonic CP-72.

Anyone have any comments on the Denon changers? The 1815 and 2815 (adds DVD-A I think) would seem intriguing if they approach the quality of the 1600. But I gather the new Denon models do not necessarily build off the 1600. According to Denon, neither has the CUE.

Both a bit more expensive than the CP-72 (if you can find it).
