Depends on the manufacturer and age of the set. It can be anywhere from about 320 lines in ye olden days, to 480 lines (give or take) today, vertical. The NTSC standard calls for 480 displayed lines.

Of course, more recent 'HD' tube TVs go to 700 lines and beyond.

This does not mean necessarily that the set will -resolve- 480 lines at the tube face... but that's what is usually aimed for. Remember also that only half these lines are being lit at once, in the case of interlaced signals.

Do RPTVs typically have line doubler's?
How old is the set? These days most RPTV's are "HDTV-ready" and do offer progressive scan capability. A few years ago that wasn't the case.
