Starting today, I am getting 26-1 and 38-1 channels. What new channels are you getting at what signal? I would like to know if I need a stronger antenna to receive these new channels (Telemundo and KTEH?).

Telemundo's been broadcasting on 49 (48.1) for awhile now; KTEH isn't supposed to come online until 1-May-2003 (darn it).

27 (26.1) is allegedly KTSF, and 47 (38.1) might be KTLN. But I haven't tried tuning any of these yet myself.

I can get channel 39 (38.1), but I haven't been able to get 27 (26.1). I get a good signal from channel 26, so I think I should get 27. Is it on full time or just part time?

I went through all of the commercial channel assignments last night to see who met the May 1st deadline and 38.1 is the only new one I found.

Here's a list of the new stations that should be on now:

Analog - Digital - Location

14 - 51 - San Francisco

26 - 27 - San Francisco

32 - 33 - San Francisco

38 - 39 - San Francisco

42 - 63 - Concord

50 - 54 - Santa Rosa

64 - 62 - Stockton

65 - 41 - San Jose

66 - 34 - Vallejo (analog is on Sutro)

68 - 47 - Novato

According to the newspaper today, 75% of the stations across the country didn't meet the deadline. Amazing, isn't it?

Non-commercial stations have until May 1 of next year.

I got 27 (26.1), KTSF, this morning. Picture but no audio. Time was incorrect in the PSIP, too. But they're coming right along. Watched Korean news for a bit.

While doing one of my periodic channel checks, I found these new stations are on the air now:

KTSF 27-1 ("26") (704x480i)

KCNS 39-1 ("38") (704x480i)

KTLN 47-1 (?)

Signal strengths on my HiPix were in the 60's on channel 27 and around 80 for channel 39. Channel 47 was only at "5", which is what the HiPix usually shows when it 'knows there is a signal' but can't receive it.

Channel 47 is the digital station for KTLN channel 68 in Novato up in Marin county. I get a good signal here in San Francisco.

Channel 49, Telemundo, is transmitting from the East Bay hills above Milpitas. I can't get it at all.

It would be interesting to know which New York stations you are receiving and when you received them. UHF does not skip like lower frequency signals due as the signal passes through the ionosphere instead of reflecting off of it. There is a phenomena of tropospheric ducting that can occur but lately this has not been favorable. It also does not go through mountain areas very well so NY to California is a real rarity. For more information on this there is a good website that has forecasting information and a general explanation of the various DX modes that occur and what conditions are favorable for them. It is fun to catch the DX stations and digital brings a new opportunity since if you get the signal, it should be clear whereas with analog you tend to get fuzzy signals.

There are some other links off of this page for those really interested in DXing.
