It obviously wouldn't make sense for all channels to always be broadcast in high definition - it wouldn't be a wise use of bandwidth. But lets say over the next few years HDTV sales skyrocket. Now suppose the bandwidth is available for 20 non network channels in five years from now: What would they be? what *should* they be?

Here are my guesses of what we might get:

Discovery channel (no brainer)

ESPN (720p or 1080i?)

Fox sports net (480P?)

MTV

Starz

KTLA

And a few other superstations

TLC

Maybe CNN

There would probably be a couple of bran new HDTV channels.

The travel channel (this would be 50 times better in high def)

If we include movie channels like HBO and Showtime which already do HD that pretty much does it.

Wait a minute, I just thought of one more high def must: the NASA channel! Most of it would probably be from the new space station. I would get dizzy watching it but it would still be awesome!

What do you think?

Let's add E!Tv to that..for the Victoria's Secret Shows they have..

Now,

How about a few programs/services we DON'T want in HD:

The Weather Channel

The Richard Simmons Show

Two Fat Ladies

Bloomberg Tv ( maybe then you could read it..)

Finally..

The Operation: Vasectomy/Tubal Ligation

I'm sure there are more of each..

Okay, I agree. Now here's one that many of us would love (me included)in HD and some of us would hate: Dish network channel 496

The Sci Fi channel would also make a good addition to an HD line-up, especially with some of the programs shot in widescreen that they have.

Some of their older filmed material would also probably look good in HD.

I would like to see the Sci Fi channel in HD, also ESPN and more movie channels.

I think it is a waste of bandwidth to show any "talking head" news show in HD.

How about the playboy channel?

Not that I watch it!

Actually, More PPV channels. In fact all the PPV channels in 5.1 DD and 1080i. I mean, we pay through the nose for these channels anyway, so why can't we get them the way we want!
