If I was planning the purchase of a Sanyo Z1 ($1500?) or an inFocus X1 ($1600?), and:

if I happened to find an extra, oh, $500 to $1000 in my bank account , is there an obvious choice of projectors that would be "1 step up" in overall performance from the Z1/X1?

Or is there simply nothing within $1000 that can touch either of these two projectors?

Or to put it another way, are there any other projectors within $1000 that improve the overall picture quality enough to justify the extra cost?

Thanks...

Next up from Infocus X1: try the Sharp M20X or (more likely) the NEC LT 240.

Next up from the Sanyo Z1: Sony HS10 or Sanyo PLV-70. (The PLV-70 is quite a bit more).

Two caveats:

-- I know much more about DLP machines than LCD

-- I have not seen either the Z1 or the X1 yet, they are too new, so I am just going off of general impressions of things that I have seen for comparison.

I haven't seen the Z1, but I think the AE300 would probably be the next step up. That is assuming that you are willing to wait for its US release or buy from overseas.
