Say I like to back up some of my music CD, what so special about Maxell CD-R Music vs. regular CD-R?

And Taiyo Yuden is made in Japan, any1 own Maxell CD-R music media, if so, what country made them?

Music CDs have had a royalty paid on them to music copyright owners, and they are embossed with some data that can inform a CD burner of this fact.

Stand-alone audio CD recorders that are designated "consumer" require this media.

Stand-alone audio CD recorders that are designated "professional" do not require this media.

PC's don't require this media.

It is hard to determine the country that media is made in based on just brand and type. Most CD-R media is made in just a few plants, and sold by all sorts of people under their own brand name.

So arny, is there anything special at all to the Mitsui/MAM-A "Gold" CD-Rs that are marketed to audiophile archivists? Is there any point to paying a large premium for those versus the ones I can get at the local big box store?
Thanks Arnyk. In the end, I call Maxell, they told me what you said.

Mitsui is a junk brand.

I thought the CD-R MUsic is a higher quality media, since it's not. I have decided to go w/ Taiyo Yuden That's in CD-R media from Japan. That's is Scratch Proof.

Not that I can see. Head on over to www.cdfreaks.com , they have done a lot of media tests over the years, with Taiyo-Yuden consistently being the best as far as media errors and data integrity are concerned. Of course you can't usually find Taiyo-Yuden at the big box sores either, although they are readily available online.
