Give yourself 8-10" behind the couch, make a couple small pedestals (like maybe 1' high), and lay your surround on them on their BACK firing straight up. This is about the best you can get when you have to be right against a wall.

Originally posted by CZ Eddie I currently have Rocket RS series front speakers (550 & bigfoot) and for my rear I have some older Rock Solid speakers (B&W engineered). |

Originally posted by CZ Eddie The update is that my new couch is very tall. The backrest comes up just slightly over my head, maybe by an inch or two. So I'm thinking my speakers MUST be mounted on the wall above my head, or the ceiling. |
Originally posted by marius My couch was against the back wall. I moved it out 1 ft, stuck a sofa table (the long narrow kind) in there against the wall, and put my rear speakers flat on their back firing up on the sofa table. Nice thing about the sofa table is that it covers the entire length of the couch so you can put other decorative items there, pictures frames, etc. between the speakers. |
Originally posted by MRL I am also in the same situation and was satisfied with 5.1 until I start reading forums like this... You folks that mount them up high to you angle them down or let them fire straight out? My couch is also up against the back wall but there is also a large window above the couch. I was thinking about setting something up ontop of the Valance since it is pretty stout and about 6-8" wide. I have dipoles (Rocket 300's) on the sides now. What would you put in back? Another set of dipoles or regular front firing and tilt them down a bit? Thanks |
