I'm planning a major receiver upgrade, and for the forseeable future in graduate school I do not see my self buying a blu ray player. All HD audio will come from my HTPC.
I'm pretty sure the HTPC can decode these formats and send them over LPCM via HDMI to the receiver. I don't know exactly how but that doesn't matter for this purchase, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
My question is, can any 7.1 receiver correctly decode HD audio sent over LPCM? I'm pretty sure the answer is no, so can I go any lower in the price range than a receiver that specifically states DTS-HD etc. decoding?
If so, what specification would that be?
I should probably add that I hate PL2 for movies, sounds ****** and inaccurate. So unless the dematricing is much better for newer receivers, I would prolly just go with a 5.1 rec and save the money for speakers.
Thanks guys and gals!
