I am not sure if I am posting in the right area. I will be eventually building a HT room. Half my movies are widescreen and hald my movies are standard 4 x 3. What kind of screen do I put in my HT?
I will be watching Classic movies from the 40's etc, that are not in wide screen. We do have alot of them too. Judging from I see in the forum a 2:35:1 but I am not sure how those type of movies will fare on that type of screen.
For me the choice was between 2.35:1 vs 16:9. I wouldn't go 4:3. When I show 4:3 material on my 16:9 screen I just have black bars on left and right. Sometimes when I show 4:3 I change the zoom of the projector to use all the pixels (my projector is 4:3). Sometimes when I show 4:3 material, I use my DVD player's stretch ability -- it makes the characters look a little fat, but let me tell you that Old Star Trek's "Doomsday Machine" episode is quite nice in unnatural 16:9.
