I currently have a Denon 787 and am looking to upgrade. I have been looking at both the Yamaha 863 and the onkyo 706 and I am having trouble deciding which one I am going to purchase. I need a little help deciding so let me know what you think!

Why not buy both and see which you like better and return the other one. Better yet, try out the HK 254/354 too.
