Good afternoon everyone,

I have been lurking for awhile and I finally have a quandry that I could use your help with.

My old Vizio died that I bought from Costco in 2006 after perusing these forums I found out that I am grandfathered in to Costco's old return rules and I verified it with a quick call to Costco. When I spoke with the Coscto employee they told me that they would exchange it for a similar TV in quality and price (which have changed a lot in almost 4 years). so the question is which Model do I select from Costco?

I walked in today and saw the following models:

Panasonic TC-54PS14

Panasonic TC50PX14 720P only?

LG50PS30

Sony KDL52w5100 LCD

Which of those should I select or should I wait a couple of weeks until the new Panasonic's are released? Does Costco get new models in soon after they are released or months after? Granted any of these would be WAY better than my old Vizio but I am just trying to get the most bang for my trade-in.

Eman

P.S. Didn't Costco used to have the G10's? does anyone know if they still do at another store in the Seattle area?

Actually they have to give you a full refund of your original purchase price if you request it. You're not stuck with having to accept a similar model from their inventory.

The TC-54S14 would be my pick out of your list. It's almost as good as a 54S1.

Panasonic's "wharehouse" models tend to appear in Costco and Sam's Club stores well after their regular models become available at Best Buy and Sears etc. I don't think Costco ever carried the G10.

Randy,

Thank you!! I did not know they had to give me a full refund. I paid almost 1800 for this old Visio VP42 and that will buy a lot of TV now a days!!

How much different are the "Wharehouse" models from their counterparts? Does anyone know if they ever get a model better than the TC-54S14?

I called a few Costco's in my area and it looks like the S14 will be my choice. I thought I might wait a bit to see if the next generation TV's would make it to Costco soon but it does not look like it from Randy's advice. Looks like I will pull the trigger this weekend.

The information gathered on these forums has been invaluable!! A great big thank you to all!!

Ok I went to Costco to Trade-in the T.V. and was told that I had to have every piece of paperwork and cable that came with the T.V. to turn it in. I do not even know where most of this stuff is...uggh.

I was also told that they would replace the TV with any other 42" T.V. but would not give me a full refund. I told that was not the return policy and I was told that "The return policy is whatever the manager decides" Grr.....

They have no 1080P plasma's at that size only LCD. Oh..what to do! Help me out guys and gals is there a magic word to get the full refund to buy a new T.V.

just get the 42" panny plasma they have if it comes to it. In 42" size, 1080p means next to nothing. the panny will still be better than what you had

I ran into the same problem as you last weekend. Had a Vizio 42" 720p 60hz LCD from 2007 that cost me $1200 back then. It was under the old return policy that I thought I was "grandfathered" in. Although I didn't have the original box, I did have all the manuals still. I was told that they would offer me any other 42" they had on the floor only after the store manager approved it. I was at least hoping for store credit because I could of got a nice Panny 50" 120hz or a Vizio 47" 240hz for the price I originally paid. I ended up accepting the 42" Vizio 120hz since they didn't have the 240hz in stock like they do on their website. I believe the 120hz was $799.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I was able to replace it after 3 years but peeved that I was lead to believe that I would still be under the old return policy with a full refund. I actually called back when they changed to the new policy and was told they would still "grandfather" me in.

Good luck on your quest.

Good Afternoon everyone,

After leaving a bit deflated from my first trip to return the TV. I called the store manager that they customer service dpeartment referred me to and laid out my request. He chastized me in a friendly way about wanting the 54 inch when returning a 42 inch. I mentioned to him that I would still not be getting the "Full Refund" since the 54inch Panasonic was now $1299. I was as honest and let him know that I realized that this may be a selfish request for such a swap but that I really wanted the new T.V. He agreed and offered to give me the 54 inch Panny.

He then noticed the store was out of that model and referred me to another store. He then called that store to let them know I was coming and what deal had been struck. They were super easy to deal with there and 20 minutes later I left the store with my new plasma. I had to pay 20 dollars due to a difference in tax.

I am very happy with the result and a little patience trying to get to the right person paid off.

I have downloaded the Burn in DVD from another thread and I will be performing that task this week. Thanks again to eveyone here for your knowledge and help!!

I read this thread with interest and was resigned to accepting a replacement set when I brought my 47" dead Vizio LCD to my Costco in Chantilly VA tonight. (Still an awesome deal.) Instead, I walked out with a check for the full amount. I didn't call ahead of time and wasn't pushy at all. I did have the original receipt from Jan 2007. They said that if I didn't have the receipt, they would have asked me to pick a replacement. Hope this helps someone.
