what's the biggest internal hard drive that I can install in the PS3 right now?

Does it just accept *any* 2.5" notebook drive? The largest I've seen

is a WD 320GB unit..l. will that work in the PS3?

Thanks!

Any 2.5" as far as I know and that was the 250GB until recently.

I am pretty sure I have seen a youtube of a guy installing an external 500GB or 750GB drive as his internal by using a SATA to USB adapter. The PS3 recognized it as an internal drive and formated it fine. I've also read that the FAT 32 system has a theoretical limit of 2TB. The question I have is why the Harddrives lose so much space when they are formated. I recently installed a 250GB HDD that when formated shrank to 205GB. I realize that 250 is actually 232 when you count in units of 1028 but where did the other 27GB go?

Well the limitation is 2TB (FAT32 limitation), but I don't think we'll see that anytime soon.

The OS reserves a percentage of the drive for it's own use.

A percentage, and not a fixed amount? Why is that, and what exactly does it use it for?
