Crestron state that you can run Cresnet up to 5000 feet. We are fitting a C2N IIF that it on a gate 3000 feet from the head end! The cable needs to be run in underground ducting, and we cant find a duct grade Cresnet equivilent. So we are looking at using duct grade cat 5. The longest we have used cat5 for a cresnet run is about 1000 feet and that worked fine.

Anyone used cat 5 for longer for Cresnet data, audio and video?

The IIF will be powered locally, so no need for 24v.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

No idea. But if you get no answer, post it at Yahoo Crestron group. They are quite helpful and very experienced there....

BTW, there is a way to test this in advance. Simply get a spool of wire that long and without running it in the tube, connect the two pieces to see if it works. Since the cable is coiled, it represent a more difficult case than if it was run straight....
I dont have a part number but last year installed an IIF at a gate that was 1500 feet from the head end and their was a black-jacket cresnet cable waiting on me (pulled by clients electrician). It was meant for direct burial. I saved a piece to make a programming cable. When i get to the job today i will see if it has any markings on it. The guage was exactly the same as typical cresnet or liberty's version.

One thing i did have issue with was video via the cat5 (IVD). That was @ 1500'. You should definately do what amirm said and test this using a spool of cable @ your shop.

Obviously my issue could have been any number of things other than distance, damaged cable for instance. The cat5 was in a strong jacket sealed with a white goo inside for water resistance. Mentioning this because this sort of cable rarely suffers from damage while being pulled.

Follow up.. This is the cable used @ 1500 feet to successfully deliver Cresnet (including 24v) to the IIF.

You will NOT be able to successfully run audio and video from an IIF for 3000'. The spec is 750'. That can be stretched a bit, but not to 3000'. You will need to implement a special solution for this distance, I suggest contacting Crestron. As far as running Cresnet over Cat 5 for 3000', I hope you are joking.
Wireless
Cable + Pulling costs for a copper solution will exceed a fiber based solution here. And just remember, fiber can't rust....

Use the BARIX solution (full doc's + support exist to hook it up to an IADS), some fiber and some media converters....Can't handle vid but just do that separately (over ethernet also)

On a recent job with the gate 4000' from the main house, we decided to just run vid + security over the fiber and we're doing the intercom over the public network - the gate has it's own phone line...
