What's the story on FOX?

I don't own a BD player but I do sometimes check out the titles coming out. Anyway I was looking here http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/releasedates.html and noticed there are none, nada, zip Fox titles listed all the way out to Nov 20. Are they out of the game or what?

4th quarter is where most retail sales happen, it looks like they are just picking their time.

Yup... I just have this gut feeling it's gonna be a dry summer and a really, really hard hitting winter.
Maybe they are waiting for the BD-J issues to sort out.

BD+
Or going neutral... hey it could happen!
They have been eerily silent about their future Blu-ray plans.

Much like everything about the format war, it's just a matter of "wait and see".
If you look at what movies from Fox that have sold well. You can se a connection on what type of movies Fox thinks can make its money back on a highdef release.

Fox just think its HighDef releases as Buissness as usual.
Chalk my comment up as wishful thinking, because that's all it is, but I hope a friend of mine is right - he *thinks* the writing is on the wall and there are things/deals going on behind the scenes that we have no idea about but "the suits do"...he likes to say "just don't be surprised if it's Fox who shakes things up in the war and goes the big 'N' first, not Disney or Universal as so many thought - they've both repeatedly stated they're staying put, the silence and movie pulling is not just about specs etc..." Please, not trying to start any rumors, and again, a buddy of mine (who owns both a PS3 and an XA2 and follows this stuff daily) is responsible for putting the crazy thought into my head, but it is just %100 dreaming and wishful thinking on my part here.

I share your dream.
Agree....Fox may be getting to go one way!!!
Thanks for pointing this out, yes - this is quite odd. Though I wouldn't say it suggests Fox is thinking about HD DVD, you could maybe say that it means they are just gonna wait and see what happens for a while before investing more production costs.

What's strange is that they don't have any titles or announcements for anything even far in the distance, making it seem like they aren't planning any upcoming support for BD on any kind of surface level, period. Which would be strange since they're supposed to be a staunch supporter.

Or it could be just like what happened with Universal at the start of this year - Universal just decided to keep its cards to it's vest, do some background re-shuffling, skip releasing much during Q1, so that they could have a bigger release presence later throughout the year.

Maybe Fox is just sort of skipping the late Q2 to mid-Q3 period so they can prepare to have a huge Q4.

I would bet on that over any consipiracy theories - however, I would note that Fox has always announced their support/release dates far in advance while Universal has always done somewhat the opposite...

But what if the rumours that Fox is waiting on BD+ security?

If they say to the BDA that they will only release new titles if the BD+ security layer is available, do you think the current players would be updated (firmware) to deal properly with BD+?

Or would Fox dare to release BD+ titles incompatible with current players?

I certainly hope they'd go neutral though. I am neutral in this silly war, and if the movie studios did the same all problems would be over. PS3 won't go away, so Bluray won't die. And Toshiba with its US$300 players won't give up on HDDVD with such a big (and growing) dedicated player installed base...
Fox's previous statements about the format war are seeming more and more ironic. They prematurely declare Blu-ray as the winner, and then go on to release basically nothing for a very, very long time, on either format.

From the link you'll see that Canada has been "threatened" by Fox that they would delay distribution of new films here if Canada doesn't do something about illegal copying, distribution, etc.

Fox more than any other studio is taking the copy protection issue to another level. And they don't want the next gen format susceptible to the same piracy issues as other media. Blu Ray promised better protection of the content than HD DVD but that turned out to be a promise which couldn't be fulfilled. So now it's wait and see. If HD DVD provided better copy protection then Fox would easily move to that format. It's not happening for either format at this time.

Exactly. And with recent news, you can see why.

They suffer from DRM paralysis.
Reality to Fox, come in Fox!!!

No such thing as foolproof copy protection. Good Lord!

No. Actually, they've developed a stronger DRM than even AACS + BD+. It's called the we-won't-release-anything-at-all DRM. It's almost unbreakable, because the hackers don't even have access to HD movie at all.
