On the first receiver I ever owned (an early '90's JVC stereo unit) I accidentally connected my tape player through the phono input. Much smoke ensued. The receiver acted weird for a few days, but no long term damage seemed to have been done.

fry any A/V equipment through ignorance, stupidity, or even curiousity?
Example, when I was around 15 and cassettes were on the rise and 8-tracks were becoming extinct...I hard wired my 8 track player into hot 120 and inserted tape...It looked like a roman candle on the fourth of July, problem was, I did it in my bedroom. Ok that was stupidity and ignorance but I did it because of curiosity.
