I would think age is a factor, if they’re looking for someone who can do ten or 20 years as a permanent host. Katie and Bill Whitaker are both in their 60s. Ken and Mayim are in their 40s, as was Alex when he started on the show.
You have a point. But we age differently than we did even 30 years ago. Seventy is the new 50. Had Alex not gotten ill, he was still going strong at 80. Will Jeopardy still be on in 20 years, or even 10?

It may depend on whether the intent is just to maintain, or if there’s thought of somehow retooling the show and trying to expand the audience, which skews quite old (average age: 65). Maybe they should try Iain Armitage, the kid that plays Young Sheldon.
