When does Replay Reboot?

458 Views 10 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  crowbert
I know Replay does a daily reboot, but when does that happen? If I have paused Replay while watching Live TV is there a chance it might reboot (and I mean other than some software glitch that may cause a crash), or does it just reboot after some amount of inactivity?

Thanks,

Brian

I believe it is every 48 hours on on the 4xxx @ the moment.

On the 5xxx... every 7 days. It's not supposed to do a maintenance reboot during recording but it might during a pause if you aren't looking? Anyone else know?
I don't know about if it's paused, but the other day I was watching something that was delayed about 5 hours, got up to open the door (maybe I should've paused it??), came back and it was rebooting. Needless to say, it was rather crappy timing on the replay's part.
Could it be that when there is no activity for a certain amount of time, the replay gives the okay for a reboot? Still wondering if it reboots while paused, but it sounds like it will reboot during a delay, but not while paused...

No, it reboots during live TV too ( so lots of activity and it will reboot anyway ) ... the World Series game 7 and election night are the two recent favorites I have been ranting about lately. No one has a consistent answer on when or why it does this ... that apparently includes the folks who make it.

The "maintenance reboot" shouldn't happen if live TV is paused or stopped, or if a show is recording, or if a recorded show is playing. It may happen if live TV is just playing, because it has no way of knowing if someone is watching or not, unless they cancel the reboot during the 3 minute warning message, in which case it won't try again for at least 3 hours.

Thanks for clearing that up Mark!

Any chance you could also shed a little light on why it's necessary in the first place? I entirely understand if you're unable to for contractual / nda reasons, but I'm just askin'. :)
I think they should simply reprogram the Replay to only perform its maintenance reboots between 3:00 and 4:00 AM. This would certainly avoid most of the frustrating conflicts people are experiencing. Is there any logical reason why this can't be done?
Hey! how about us night owls? Don't we count for anything? How self centered can one get? Geeeeez.......
Rebooting? Mine only reboots when it loses power. Of course, I have a 2020. This is yet one more reason I won't be upgrading anytime soon.
