The cheaper plasma displays are 852x480. If I were to buy a plasma it would have to have 1280x720. When is this higher resolution std with plasme. Almost all lcd displays are 1280x720 or higher.

Ohlson,

Why if you bought a plasma it would have to be 1280x720? I have seen several post that said that EDTV plasma's at certain viewing distance is comparable to HDTV resolution.

Do you really think you'll see a difference between 1024 x 768 and 1280 x 720 at a normal viewing distance? I highly doubt it.

How do you know? Maybe without the scaling it might look better. I kinda have the same concern now that I'm thinking of actually spending money on a display.

A 16:9 pixel ratio makes sense on a 16:9 aspect ratio display.

The resolution and pixelation certainly would be much higher and much lower with 1280x720 instead of 852x480. Lcds are soon going to be 1920x1080.

There are plenty of 50" 1366x768 plasmas out there. They are bigger, better and cheaper than any 1920x1080 LCD that I know of.

Bigger? Yes. Better? Perhaps. Cheaper?!? I must not be shopping in the right stores... I've seen 1920x1080 LCDs for sub-$2K prices, but never a 50" plasma!

Didn't say 50". I said 1920x1080 which, I believe, are currently limited to 37" or 40" displays...

Edit: Nevermind, I see you cleared up your statement.

If you think you can see the difference, then by all means please wait the time necessary for manufacturers to decide to succumb to the wishes of a few, if that ever happens. Too many people get caught up in a numbers game with pixel resolution so much that they won't even look at the available technology to see if it makes any difference to their eyes.
