my wife wanted to turn the den into a playroom for kids....

we converted living room to TV room, needed big TV....

bought mit's WS 55 in.

had to buy progressive scan DVD...

bought stereo, 7.1 capable (only 5.1 right now)

already had DirectTV, but bought a Direct TIVO (which we love)...

bought S-VHS vcr (had to have VCR, too many old videos....)

thought I wanted HD, but recording capability looks questionable...

I think where I am heading is all the features I have now, only with HD, including TIVO like functionality, as well as long term archiving (long term archiving being something to replace VHS)

Do I need a HTPC? will it get me where I think I'm heading? Can a PC replace VCR, only work at higher resolution? Hard drives are cheap, of course blank CDs are cheaper....

Thanks for any comments
