I really missed those oldies games like:

Top-View Shooter: Heavy Barrel by Data East (arcade)

Side-Scroll shooter: Contra by Konami

These games were fun to play. The thing that l like about these games is that your character is surrounded by enemies (360 degrees). It makes the game play very intense.

FPS games, graphically, are cool but the enemies are only in front of your character ( 180

Call me old timer, but I think Heavy Barrel is/was the best shooter of all time.

I wish/hope PS3 or Xbox360 have them in the classic game library.

hmmmm Burger Time anybody?

The Gradius series is still going pretty strong if you like little spaceships instead of person. Gradius V is nice on the PS2 (even if a little on the hard side) and a new Gradius should be coming for the PS3.

If you want some 360 degree action in a very small arena, try Blast Factor.

It's quite a claustrophobic experience that can turn badly pretty fast.

agreed, pick up gradius V if you can find a copy at a good price. I was able to find one for a lucky $30 on ebay.

Its got a steep learning curve, and is pretty fun, even if it is more like a "mario allstar" of a video game.
