Where (CompUSA?) to fix laptop VAIO HTPC?

229 Views 1 Reply 2 Participants Last post by  RScottyL
My VAIO laptop HTPC has some form of hardware problem and won't boot up. I tried taking out all the screws to see how accessible the mobo is, to no avail. I just can't seem to get at it.

I'm wondering where to go to have this serviced. Anyone ever try CompUSA [or other store] to have a laptop serviced?

Your best bet is to look online for any Sony authorized service centers in your area, and possibly take it to them or mail it to them for repair.

I work at a Fry's Electronics in the Service Department, and as far as laptops, you are limited to what hardware you can swap out while testing, as there are no standard parts between makes and models like there is with desktops. I think all retail stores (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc) may run into the same issue, as it is difficult to carry every single part for a laptop.

What exactly is it doing? How far is it getting in the boot process?

Are you getting any lights when it is plugged in or running off battery?

Are you getting anything on the screen?
