Hi, it seems that every component these days has everything in it....

My Denon AVR-4520ci has all of the features and accommodates all of the media sources and handling of inputs and outputs I need...

I now wish to get a dumb monitor simply to display the image.... I'd rater spend the $ on image quality vs. all of the smart TV features.... They have this for projectors, there must be some sort of flat screen products like this.... right???

I'm hoping to find a monitor somewhere between 65" & 75"

Can anybody direct me to brands, models, forums, anything where I can begin shopping for this product

I hope the forum moderators don't mind, I am going to post this query in both LCD and Plasma forums, coz I'd be happy with either if the price/quality ratio is right.

I'm pretty sure such an animal doesn't exist. This has been an ongoing topic on AVS for some time now. Probably better to focus on your needs. What is your budget, viewing distance, viewing habits, etc.?

This is my second system in the great room.... I have a dedicated theatre room with CRT & 110" screen for serious viewing..

So for this system.... When seated, we'll be 8-10' from the screen... But as I said it's in the great room which adjoins the kitchen...so casual viewing from there will be > 20' away... This unit will be used primarily for satellite & streaming inputs.

Not looking for world class... just a nice image for a large display

The Samsung 5300 series Plasma are TV only. I think the biggest is 64" .

Greater than 20'? Ouch. It's probably heresy to say in these parts but give a good look at a big Sharp LCD. Sure there are better displays but at 20'+ you won't see it anyway.

Right now I have a 42" pioneer Elite Plasma sitting in the spot where I plan to mount the 65"er... We seem to be able to see it pretty clearly...

This is not a critical viewing system,,,, mainly a monitor that we leave on (CNN 80 % of the time) as we do out stuff about the house..

btw, I am appreciating the replies, I've already found some interesting leads on the Panasonic & samsung plasmas recommended above

it's generally cheaper to produce one item(even if it includes extras) than 2 items. so despite the fact you're going to feel like you wasted money buying a tv with smart features, the truth is you aren't. don't worry about what 'extra' the tv has, just compare the stuff you need, and buy the best deal.

I mean, for me, all I wanted was great picture quality, didn't care for 3D, smart features, etc, but all the TV's with great PQ come with that stuff anyway.

What did you end up getting? Would you recommend it? If yes what's a good price?

Thanks

I ended up with a 64" Samsung f8500. somedays I still wonder if the vt60/zt60 would have been a good choice, but ultimately the Samsung was so darn close in the dark, and better in the light, and it was 500bux cheaper. so at the time I think I made the right choice. it's just that now the f8500 is still available, and the pannies aren't, and that kind of makes me want what I can't have, haha

unless you're in Canada, what I paid won't really matter. I thought it was a good price, paid 2850 for it last april

if I were buying today, I'd still hunt around for an st60 if you can find one. I really believe that that was the best value for a tv made since crt's. nothing else was as good for as little, and spending a lot more didn't get much better either.

I would go for(in general order based on value)

-st60

-vt60

-f8500

-zt60

-s60

-f5300

-h5000(have not seen this one, so that's why it's on the bottom)
