First off...I just found these forums and have learned a lot!

Second I recently bought a new house, and I am in the process of designing setting the basement family room up. It is finished, so I am using what is there. I am going to try and attach 2 crude diagrams I made, to try and paint the picture. My questions are, where should I mount the speakers?? My plan is to do in wall, and/or ceiling. The problem is, for the FL and FR the only place to mount would be in the ceiling, or front facing on the recessed part of the ceiling. In the diagram the brown area is approximately 15inches lower then the rest of the ceiling. There is a lowered area(for HVAC i think) around the perimeter of the room.

I always thought that speakers should be facing the listener, so I was thinking that by placing them in the chase if there is room that might work......except that they would be WAY above ear level sitting. The Center channel can go in the wall under the TV. The TV is a 46 IN so there inst a lot of room to put all front speakers below it.they would almost be on top of each other.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!! Would it sound ok with the speakers mounted high?? or would down firing ceiling mounted be better?? Or is there other options??

Thanks in Advance!
