I'm looking to buy a sub to compliment my home theater system.

My current equipment:

- Jamo E770 left and right

- Jamo C400CEN center channel

- Jamo C400SUR surrounds

- Onkyo TX-SR607 AVR


I don't have a lot to spend, and was planning to purchase an Elemental Designs A2-300 for $350.


My question is: Can I build a better sub for the same price? I've got all of the tools and wood-working experience, but lack the knowledge of what makes a sub sound good.


I'm a bit overwhelmed looking through all of these threads with frequency response graphs and baffle designs that don't make any sense to me.


Can someone recommend a driver/amp combo and a box blue-print that will make it all sound good? I'm not looking for house-shaking bass, just something that sounds good and clean.

If you can swallow the size the THT will blow you away for around $400. See one of the ridiculous number of build threads on them lately

If you want to have a sub up and running quickly, and don't mind assembling the kit, I think the Dayton Titanic Mk III 10" kit is a winner.

As mentioned, if you don't mind a complete build then you can get more bang for the buck.

It should EASILY beat the eD. I believe the THT will be comparable to the best subs eD sells, although I have never heard them personally. It can be built for $400 and it's a pretty simple build really. Maybe someone who has heard both can elaborate better but I believe someone got rid of dual A7s 650's for a dual THT setup IIRC
