probably died with the hd dvd format--i wish we had dts mahd via analog but I know the hardware isn't advanced enough for that....also wish it werent so fussy with disks...

what are you looking for in an update? lots of wishes but little prospect for much else but compatinbility issues....if that. I wish they put as much effort into their players as they do their tvs...

The BDP2500/2550 has the same architecture as the 5000. All them use the same Broadcom chip BCM7440 that comes with the reference board and daughterboard BCM97440. If the BDP2500/2550 could be updated to DTS-HD MA, the can do the same to the 5000.

The only difference between both players are the DACs. The 8 DAC monolith AKM AK4358 to the 5000 and the high end 8 DAC ESS Sabre Premier to the 2500/2550. And DACs are not related to the capability the BCM97440.

i assume you are talking about over analog not bitstreaming? That would be miraculous!

SO does that mean we can burn an firmware update ISO file for a BD-P2500 and run it on our 5000's? Personally I don't care about the audio as I have it hooked to my bedroom TV which is a standalone without an audio receiver. I would like the netflix capability of the 2500 though...

Still wishen and hopen that Sammy will once again think about us and deliver some manna from the heavens enabling our players to preform some acts we have long wished for and some we have never dreamed of...

Yes, he is referring to the multichannel analog output; that's the use of these Multichannel (8-channel) Dacs.

But if Samsung comes out with a new firmware version to allow DTS-HD Master Audio

to be decoded on the BD-UP5000 (I hope, around May 2009), that will mean that it can output this new audio codec by Decoding it inside the player, through the multichannel analog output.

And Yes, it would not only be miraculous, but also excellent for the reputation

of Samsung over it's loyalty to their customers.

I, myself, am hopeful that it will happen sooner than never.

P.S. And a big thanks to "HiRes_PR" for his description of the Dac difference between the

5000 vs the 2500/2550. Very nice indeed.

I just wish that they had a better Bass Management with Channel's Delay and Volume adjustments, including the Subwoofer channel. As it is, it is very poorly implemented.

I am talking, of course, about the Multichannel Analog output.

How Samsung could do such a poor job, speaks volumes about their lack of integrity and

knowledge on the Audio side of their Blu-Ray players. They need to get on with the program, that is just a simple basic but important aspect of the multichannel analog audio output. So, the implementation of their reasonable good quality Dacs, is totally waisted.

This is a fatal mistake, and it is unforgettable.

To clarify, it's already capable of bitstreaming DTS-MA.

From Bitstreaming through HDMI, I already knew that.

But it is not decoded inside the player, to be output from the multichannel analog output.

That's what I was referring to. And that's a big oversight.

Note: Oups! Sorry, you are right, I make a little slip in my post. I am correcting that right away. Thanks for the illumination, vinnie97.

Are the DAC's in the 2500/2550 that much better?

Better or not, at least you get to use all the 8 DACs in 2500/2550 (because it decodes DTS-HD MA, a format where majority of 7.1 tracks are encoded) than 5k where you only use 6 DACs for most of the time and can't enjoy DTS-HD MA lossless from it at all.

Very true.

But I don't think there is a big difference in sound from the analog output.

The ESS dac is just a flashy name, made in Canada, by the way, close to where I live.
