What you could do is go to your local B&M and do a loupe test on all 2012 LGs that you are interested in. Write down the complete product code and your results. That way, you can get an idea, by product code, which 2012 LGs should have an S-IPS panel. Someone had mentioned earlier that the "Y" designation (fourth position in the product code) for the 2012s still indicates an S-IPS panel like it did for the 2011s. I haven't confirmed that myself though.
If I am not mistaken, at that size, they will all be IPs panels. LG is about the only panel manufacturer to create 47" panels and LG only make IPS panels.
could be wrong but I think it's a fair bet that at that size, you will get an IPS panel.
