all 32" TVs are 4x3

only 30" comes widescreen

the Sony, Panasonics, and JVCs seem to be your best options

Sony offers two lines but the more expensive is a little over your price range

I just snagged up the SOny 30XS955 from Best Buy for $1099. best Buy employee said SOny is no longer doing tube tv's, so they have it marked down. Not sure how true that is, but whatever. Anyway, incredible set, cant be touched in terms of PQ for that price. The SOny 30HS420 is a notch down, but a very very nice set as well. roughly $900

Frigging idiot Best Buy employee. Sony is continuing to make all 5 of their widescreen tube TVs for 2005 and has also introduced 3 new 4:3 tube TVs with ATSC tuners, one of which has just become available. Sony has also announced price drops across the board so that's probably why it's marked down.

oh definitely the XS955

the Super Fine Pitch is awesome if you ever sit close and the ATSC/QAM tuner, Cable Card slot are nice additions as well

I have the 30XS955 as my bedroom TV

30" Widescreen FD Trinitron® WEGA® HDTVKD-30XS955

Is the Set I am getting ready to buy.

Does this TV do 720 straight up or does it upconvert it to 1080i.

I was thinking about the HS set for a few hundred less, but I think the set above is worth the extra.

any help would be appreciated ...thanx

The Sony downconverts 720p to 1080i doesn't it?? :D

It definitely doesn't display 720p natively (no consumer tube TV does).

would one really notice a difference between the 2 resolutions ?

I am searching for some side by side pics, which I am sure there has to be somewhere..

you will only notice the difference if trying to run the TV as a PC monitor at 720p

for HDTV, I find, it looks fine

if you are using an upscaling DVD player I would set it to 1080i though instead of 720p
