Which 3D HD projector to buy?

991 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  toddbailey

Hi, I am building a media room at my home for which I am planning to buy a a decent 3D Projector and high-density projector screen along with a home theater system (need suggestion for that as well). The size of my would-be media room will be 25 feetX15.5 feet and I guess projector screen will be of anywhere between 120" and 170". I'll hook my xBox, Blu-ray player, Tata SKy HD, Asus oPlayer, and a Philips DVD player with it. And I'm looking forward for watching 3D content (movies, documentaries), HD movies, TV series, documateraies (downloaded from web or purchased on disc). I want to know which projector should I buy? And which screen? Please help Thanks Bikram

Read, read, read. A lot of projectors out there with a lot of good revues. The main decision is to start with how much you want to spend for a projector. And for screens, bigger is always better. I've got a 120" in mine and I wish I had room to go bigger.lol
I've been reading a ton. Have it narrowed down (until I change my mind again) to the Epson 5030 and the JVC X35. If I can get BB to price match East Coast TV on the JVC ($2600) I will buy on the spot.

My dilema is I want good (don't need great) 3D along with the ability to project on a 2.35 screen...so lens memory is an issue.

I think the best way to pick a projector is to find 2 or 3 things that are important, decide what you can spend and then start reading. One will surface eventually.

For me, I can't figure out if lens memory is that big a deal...assuming I can manually zoom to 2:35.
What's your budget for AV receiver? Have you looked at the Onkyo TX-NR818? It gets good reviews and has better Audyssey than the current year's model. Pretty good prices right now since the new models have come out.

I can give you my budget in Indian currency, but I am not sure how much that would help. In USD terms, I'd like to stay around $900-1000 or so for AVR, which after import duty and all becomes expensive in India, so I guess that is the max I can spare now. For full speaker set-up I think $1800-2000 (Rs.90,000-100,000) is what I want to spend
On paper the Epson 5030 looks like the better projector and better price. Epsons have become really the big dog in projectors now. They have the widest range of PJ's out there and for the most part they seem to be pretty good quality. Haven't owned one but have seen a few and they look pretty good.

Epson surely has made it big in projectors. I was wondering if Epson EH-TW6100 is a good one? And what other brands should I consider?

Looks like a pretty good european projector. 40,000:1 contrast, 3D, 1080p and really good price point.

Good review of it here.

I wasn't sure if I'd be happy with a digital prj so I went low $ and purchased a epson 3020 to test against a crt based nex xg 1100.
