looks like these are our selections for 65 inch tv's this year. so which one is the best one to buy?

sony 65W5100 just came out last week. MSRP 4999.99 can already buy it for 4499.99

sharp 65E77U due out in augest with a MSRP 4500

Samsung LN65B650 due out soon, MSRP 5999.99

i'm looking to buy a 65inch this year, between these 3 models and want the best bang for my buck. unless any new models emerge.

Definitely the Sony. I'm surprised that the Samsung is more expensive, but since you can get the Sony at the same price as the Sharp; the obvious pick is the Sony. It's probably the best out of the three too.
so what makes you think the sony is better than the sharp or samsung? would be nice if we had more posters insight on thsi subject, are we the only ones looking to buy a 65inch tv this year?
sony usually is the best thats why, sharp & samsung are still great but sony is SONY.
Samsung has for some years now surpassed Sony in most products that they compete in.

Any tv with the same technology the Samsung is usually better. Some ppl just still think of Sony as the leader which they haven't been in years. Good thing is though that the Sony prices came down.

But now with this 65" lcd shootout the samsung being the highest priced that i guess is changing and no way would i pay 6k for that samsung when you get the Sharp or Sony for less even i do like Samsung the best of the 3.

The samsung isn't out until sept. though and the price may come down onces its actually released and then obvioulsy in themonths after that.
what about the sharp vs the sony? sharp most likely will be cheaper than the sony. but should be pretty close in price.

now that i can't get the Samsung HL67A750 led dlp for a good price and only one merchant has them left and is trying to sell it for 3k after all the other retailers got rid of them on clearance for 1k, I figure if i was considering actually paying 3k then i could just drop 2" and get a nice flat lcd which will be much nicer and better then the dlp for not much more then 3k?

Well, lets search continue.

I saw 65W5100, at sony style, and was not too impressed either because of not very pleasing contrast and black levels. Nevertheless colors were nice and film like while I thought XBR9 had a red push.

It was close to a XBR9 and size is so much more appealing that it dilutes the advantage of 55XBR8's superior processing
LOL.

But I have decided not to fall for it. 4TH quarter is around the corner, what da heck

Sony started using Sharp's panels this year so their 65" should be similar to Sharp. Sony usually charges extra for the name recognition, so probably the Sharp will end up cheaper once it's released. If you are interested in non-IR control, I think Sharp is the only one of the 3 to have an RS232 port on the back.

It's probably best to wait until they are all released and you can take advantage of price competition and get actual owner opinions.
I forget where the post is, but someone said they had the 65" sony at the sony store and it looked awful. The Samsung is probably going to have a glossy screen and a red bezel. Leaves the Sharp as the best option

I said it too, that it was not very pleasing to look at!

Plus, apparently all the large (55inch) versions of the Samsung B650 all had cheaper panels (Chi Mei), so I'm going to assume that Samsung is going to use the same old strategy on the 65''. Samsung seems to be more orientated with quantity than quality. That's why I sold mine. :p The design as well, I wonder what that chin would look like with the 65inch...

But Sharp is also promising
Sharp vs Sony on this one

wait you sell tvs and you think the samsung is probably going to have a red bezel. the red toc were horrible but i guess a few ppl liked them. but i know you sell the led lcds and the 7100 an d 8000 dont have the red toc. they have actually the nicest looking build of any lcd currently.

Sharps are sometimes ok looking but sonys have been mostly ugly for awhile.

funny about the guy saying sony is still the best. Sony hasn't been the best for some time in most all products. For awhile there they were like 3rd or lower down the list on certain products but still one of the most expensive. noone fell for it anymore so they started lowering prices. now most sony stuff is a little more reasonably priced.

I mean it all depends on the model and what type of tv but again in most tvs that sony has had for some time, the competing equivalent samsung product was better and less money.

the samsung will probably be the best of these 3 but if its the most expensive then not worth it. between these 3 I think you would have to do your research on the differences nad who makes the panel and ultimately see them in person to see which you personally prefer.

Compare all 3 side-by-side with the same source signal and same cabling.... if you decide Sharp has the best picture and the best price, just make sure the panel you are buying does not have banding issues... (it's not that other 2 brands do not suffer the same problem...)
