Which brand - at 32" - supports the most video formats/codecs for USB playback?

I am wondering which brand 32" model (720 or 1080) supports the *most* formats/codecs for USB playback? I have a 47" LG and it's pretty good except for mkv. But at the 32" size, it seems support for video playback starts to dwindle (down to photos only! or photos + music).

I'd like to stick with LG if it's still a good bet or does another brand excel at this size?

Many thanks..

I'm not sure, but you can always buy an adapter.

Search for

"Micca Speck 1080p Full-HD Ultra Portable Digital Media Player"

Small, fairly cheap & will play .mkv files on any TV.

No idea about 32 inchers, but my Samsung has no issues with mkv, except for playing subtitles that are embedded in the mkv. If you extract the subtitles as srt, It uses them without issue.

Also to be a stickler, mkv is just a container not a codec/format. You should be able to extract the mp4/avi/etc file from that file.

I have the UN55D6050, 2011 model. If it supported it back then, I'm sure the most recent ones would handle it just fine.

What model year is your LG? Perhaps the newer ones handle MKV better? Also, I'm sure the playback support is based on model line. The cheaper ones don't have smart features or lack usb ports, while the more expensive ones have full support.

Thanks for this suggestion, I hadn't consider an external player. Perfect for hotel rooms as well. Do you have the Speck? How's the user interface?

Yeah it seems at the 32" size, there's a breakpoint around $200 where the USB ports sometimes don't support video playback. I used to have a Samsung 32 and it was great.. until the panel fried 9 days after the warranty expired :) Thanks for your reply!
