Which center for Totem Arrows?

564 Views 10 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  phreezee
Hey guys, I'm slowly building up a 6.1 HT setup. I auditioned the Totem Arro's last night and loved them. I'm thinking of buying 4 Arro's for the corners, but don't know which centers to buy for the front and rear that would be best timbre-matched to the Arro's.

I was leaning toward the Dreamcatcher centers. Also, would the Denon 3806 be up to the challenge for powering these speakers?

Oh and the guy I talked to said Totem prohibits/restricts their speakers on being discounted? True or False?

Thanks

I would use the Mite- T-C with the Arrows. That used to be the recommendation from totem. Don't know about discounting. It would be illegal in the US for Totem to prohibit dealers from selling product at whatever price they want. What Totem can and does restrict is mail order or over the internet sales. You "must" buy from your local authorized store.

They had a problem years ago with Canadien dealers selling speakers into the US. Totem speakers prices are the same in US and CDN.. meaning What was selling for $1,200 US was also selling in Canada for $1,200.

Just noticed you are in Canada.. So I'm not sure how it works up north.

Regards

Charlie

PS- You a Flames fan?? In my opinion the Flames .vs. Flyers game a couple of weeks ago was the best game I saw all year from any team. Wish you guys had won the cup in '04.

Thanks for the info! :)

Yes, the Flyers vs Flames game was awesome!

I love the Flames! I only moved to Calgary in September of this year (from Winnipeg), and managed to get some tickets to a game through work, cause the entire season is sold out! That night I spent $400 in Jerseys and food :D Even the wife, who is not into hockey, loved going to the game because of the energy in the Saddledome! Before that, the last hockey game I went to was Game 6 Wings vs Jets in 1997 :(
I would use the Mite TC with the Arros.

The Denon 3806 should drive those speakers just fine, however Totems are power hungry (4 ohms, 87-88 dB sensitivity). You'll get the best results with a separate power amp.

That is false. Which store did you go to?

The centre is your most important speaker so I suggest you step up to the plate like I did and get the Signaure Centre. Yes its expensive but you asked for the bst match with the Arros did'nt you.

I'll have to agree and disagree here.

Agree: The Mites are a close match

Agree: your 3806 will be fine

Agree: 4 ohms, 87-88 db

Disagree: you need a seperate power amp.

The Arro's are rated for 20 - 80 of power. I am driving a pair of Arros with about 10 wpc right now (ok 10 for the tweeter and 10 for the woofer) from a pair of Sonic T amps. They play pretty loud. I would however use more juice for HT applications and your Denon 3806 should fit the bill fine.

Wow, thanks for all the great info everyone. I have a friend that is selling a 5 channel Rotel that I"m considering also, but that might be getting ahead of myself. Looks like I'll be getting at least 1 Mite for the rear, and I'll have to audition the Signature for the front. The only stores that sell Totem around here are A&B Sound. The good news is I got my xmas bonus today :D

I suggest you take a trip to K&W Audio. They have been selling Totem in Calgary for several years now, much much longer than A&B. Their salesmen are very friendly and knowledgeable. I think you'll have an easier time dealing with them rather than the dime-a-dozen, pushy salesmen you get at A&B. I wouldn't buy Totems from anywhere else in Calgary.

1424 - 4th Street SW

Whoa, that rocks man! I'll be sure to stop by there before I plop any money down ;)

I got a line on a friends 6 month old Rotel RMB-1075 for $900. It's only 5 channel though. What do you guys think? Pass or Jump on it?
That's a good deal for the Rotel, especially if it's that new. That amp retails at $1500.
I've jumped ship to the Paradigm Studio 60's :p I auditioned them today and they seem to be a better overall speaker. Totems seem to be more music oriented. The Paradigms perform great in both home theater and music applications and will be a better fit for my needs. :) Thanks for all the info nevertheless.

The Studio 60's will be matched with a 570 center, and 2 pairs of SA-15R's in ceiling for the rears. I'm leaning toward the Rosenut finish :D
