Looking for a little help - I'm reassembling my htpc from some pieces I have kicking around and am unsure as to which sound card will be better: I have a M-Audio Delta 410 and an Audiophile 24/96.
Any suggestions as to the pro's or con's of either card?
I actually have both cards, so cost is not an issue - just wondering which is a better performer for HTPC. I actually have the Delta 410, not the Delta 44...
The big advantage of the 410 over the 24/96 is it's ability to output over 6 -or 8- analog channels.
If you're sending a digital signal over S/PDIF or are only interested in listening to analog sources in stereo, both cards are equivalent (they both have pretty good -but not bleeding edge- sound quality, can process a 44kHz or 48kHz signal with resampling, etc.).
Basically it all hinges on where you want dolby/dts processing to take place (on your pre-amp/receiver or within your HTPC)
I may eventually experiment with getting the HTPC to perform pre-amp duties, so I think I will go with the 410 - thanks for your advice.
