This is going to be my first HT projector. I want to spend around $1500 to $2000 for the following specs:

800 or more Lumens

1200 or higher contrast ratio

Native WXGA


These are the 3 projectors within that price range and that have the specs that I'm looking for:

InFocus ScreenPlay 5000

Studio Exp. Matinee 2HD

Panasonic PT-L500U


I would love to get the AE700U, but it's at best $2300 and that's out of my price range. I want to get it around Thanksgiving time so I don't think the price of the AE700U will drop to $2000.


Any thoughts on what I should choose? Remember that this will be my first real HT projector. I do have a lightware VP800 (400 Lumens and 150 contrast ration) which I think is OK, but very very washed out.

The Pany 700U can now be purchased for $1999 online! Do some searching and you will find this price! I already have my order in on one as there is a waiting list for them!

I've looked around and could not find the AE700 for that price. Where did you get it?

A suggestion - PM Jason Turk for a price on the Panasonic - he seems to get some good deals on other projectors and gets very positive feedback from customers...

I just purchased my first projector. My budget worked its way up to $1500 and I decided on the Panasonic PT-L500U. I wasn't aware the 700 could be purchased for $2000 or my decision might have changed.
