These are all on sale this week, and I've only seen a couple of em. So I was wonderin which (if any) folks here would recommend.

All-Star Superman

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns

Batman: Year One

Green Lantern: Emerald Knights

Justice League: Doom

Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox

Superman Unbound

You can choose more than one in the poll btw.

No contest. The two Batman titles are the best of the bunch easily. (Especially DARK KNIGHT RETURNS)

Some of these are/were on Netflix, so give a look!
If you know anything about DC comics and their long history, Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox is easily the slickest adaptation of the listed ones. Fans of Batman will most love Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, while Superman's fans have to check out All-Star Superman. All-Star Superman is probably the best Superman story of the past thirty years.

If you're worried about their picture quality, they have all been ranked in the Blu-ray PQ Tiers:

I believe that The Dark Knight Returns is the highest ranked animated DC movie, found in Tier 0, the highest possible rank.
The Batman's and Superman are good choices. Justice League Doom is pretty good also.

Thanks for the replies folks.

That's too easy, Lex. :)

Seriously though, I'm not a subscriber which makes it more difficult. Maybe there's another site where SD versions can legally be streamed free though (w/commercials I assume)? Already checked Hulu, and they don't seem to have em. Any other suggestions would be welcome though.

Some YouTube trailers/clips... I've added the newly released Justice League: War as well, which is also currently discounted. Trailer looks pretty good.

All-Star Superman

(Couldn't find a really decent trailer for this one.)

Thanks for the reply Phantom, and link to PQ info. Ralph also posted reviews on at least two of these films...

Add'l opinions on AV quality are certainly welcome, but I'm probably more interested in the stories & animation, because the AV quality is generally pretty good on these kinds of animated releases.

The two films I've seen btw are All-Star Superman and Batman: Year One. It's been awhile since I saw both though.

I remember thinkin the animation was pretty good on All-Star Superman, and very evocative of the visual style in the comics on which it was based. The story was a little confusing though, as I recall.

Batman: Year One was pretty good. The animation was a bit limited, but nicely drawn, and the color palette was rather muted, and favored blacks, browns, grays, blues and yellows. There was also a nice Catwoman featurette on that disc.

Looks like these are still discounted at BB. I picked up JL: Flashpoint Paradox, JL: War, and Superman Unbound (Dark Knight Returns was sold out), and have no problem recommending these.

Flashpoint Paradox is pretty dark/violent, and geared towards somewhat older, more mature viewers. It also has some of the best animation I've seen in a direct-to-video superhero feature. JL: War is more tongue-in-cheek, but also pretty good...

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show) ...especially if you like a good JL/Darkseid rumble.

And Unbound is another very solid entry in the Superman franchise, visually and story-wise. I enjoyed them all.

Hard choices indeed and I plan to add them all
I just watched "Justice League War" last night and will highly recommended it as well

Not a bad thought. :) Some of the less popular titles may be more aggressively discounted for the holidays though.

It's been over a month since the sale began at BB btw, and the prices are still discounted on these, which is sort of unusual. (?)

Has anyone here seen Green Lantern: Emerald Knights btw? The trailers and clips didn't get me too jazzed, but I thought the previous feature, GL: First Flight, was pretty decent.

It's pretty good, focusing on the lesser members of the Green Lantern Corps. It's broken up into three or four different stories, each one focusing on a different Green Lantern. If you liked First Flight, you'd probably like it as well.

^ Thanks PS. I checked out your Emerald Knights comments in the PQ Tier thread as well, which seem mostly positive. Think I'll wait a bit though, and see if I can pick this one up for a bit less (unless someone else chimes in with another positive review).
Im not going to go into an indepth review of these titles, but I will add starts (* 1 to 5) indicating my preference and tastes based on story elements and overall enjoyment and repeat viewing capability. All have good to great pic quality and sound - no complaints in that department with any of these.

All-Star Superman ***

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns ****

Batman: Year One *****

Green Lantern: Emerald Knights haven't seen yet

Justice League: Doom ***

Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox ****

Superman Unbound ***

I'd like to add the following as well in case you ever run across them for cheap:

Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths ****

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies **

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse **

Superman: Doomsday *****

Superman vs The Elite **

Batman: Under the Red Hood ***

Batman: Gotham Knight **

Wonder Woman ***

Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman ****

these are all the DC universe flicks i own (except for the green lantern one from the OP). I have also seen many of the marvel animated movies as well, but i think the DC ones are much better overall then the marvel ones, even though i prefer the marvel universe over the DC universe.

I just wish DC would go back and re-release the titles that got Dolby Digital instead of lossless audio. There's just no excuse for that.
Some of these movies are starting to get bundled together in value packs. I think I've seen a couple of them at Walmart or the like.
On DVD, maybe. I've not seen any Blu bundle except a Justice League: The New Frontier/Gotham Knights single-case packaging from WB released for Man of Steel.

Just checked the prices again, and they're still discounted. Guess they're tryin to clear out some old inventory to make room for new stuff (or really want me to shell out the 10 bucks for Emerald Knights). :)

Thanks for that list. Helps to put things in perspective.

I agree more-or-less with your ratings on the ones I've seen, but would rank both Wonder Woman and S/B: Apocalypse higher. Both have excellent animation, and the stories aren't too bad either. The action scenes in Apocalypse are particularly well-done, and some of the best I've seen for these kinds of D2V features. I didn't notice Superman/Shazam on your list though. ;)

As far as the Marvel stuff is concerned, the two I'd recommend most are probably Dr. Strange: The Sorcerer Supreme, and Hulk Vs. Wolverine/Thor. I'm probably in the minority on Doc Strange, but the drawing and animation in that is simply the best I've seen in a recent D2V release. (He was also one of my favorite comic characters as a kid.) PQ is maybe a tad soft on the BD transfer though.

I haven't seen alot of the newer animated TV series, but also enjoyed Marvel's "Wolverine & the X-men" (available on Blu-ray), and DC's "Batman Beyond" series (DVD only). Both have a degree of arc to them, esp. Wolverine & the X-men, which is a bit like an extended miniseries. Maybe someone can recommend another series that's worth a look on Blu-ray or DVD (and not too kid-oriented).

Marvel's Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher is due for release on March 25 btw.
