Hello

I am new to this forum so please pardon my lack of knowledge

The problem is I am into my movies so video is more important than audio

I have a budget of $6000.00 for the DVD player and $3500.00 for the display

I am in the U.K so both must have progressive PAL / NTSC

I was considering the Teac DV -50 as a review reccomended it

but then I hear the Denon 5900 is around the corner

The Display should be a CRT TV as this has the best picture for a viewing distance of 4 meters the model I had in mind was a Panasonic TX 36PD30

suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanking you all in advance

This is the video processor forums. We deal with boxes between the DVD player and the display that improve the Picture Quality (PQ).

$6000 for a DVD player will get you quite a good one (even in pricy UK)... I'd recommend to try the DVD hardware forums for info on the DVD.

Also, contacting a good HT dealer might get you a good deal.

muskrut,

If you're looking for good video quality, you may want to check out some of the new scalers becoming available. Many of these scalers (the HD Leeza, which is available now, and the aSimulator which should be available sometime soon...) have SDI inputs on them, which allows a completely digital transfer from the DVD player (which is usually included with the scaler, but not necessarily). If you output DVI from the scaler to your display, you can achieve a completely digital path from DVD to display, resulting in outstanding quality.

As these scalers are new, however, you probably want to do lots of reading before considering a purchase - some kind are still being worked out of the HD Leeza, for instance.

Also, carefully consider the quality of your display. The old "weakest link in the chain" idea applies here, too - having a $4k DVD player with a bad display could be just as bad as having a $4 DVD player with an excellent display.

That said, $3.5k for a display and $6k for equipment should go far. You might even have some $$$ left over from the equipment to spend on the display.
