Need a decent DVD player to go with my 5020 PIO.

Which Oppo is best value for me?

I seem to recall something about sending a 480i signal to the PIO as a preferred thing?

Happy to buy used-am a casual DVD watcher as I usually download or watch HD movies from Direct TV.

The 980H will send the native 480i signal directly over HDMI. That's the one I am using.

Got a Oppo 983, will be getting a 9th gen 50". So either 480p/576p, or 1080i/1080p should get the best results. Depending which is best at scaling, or for the single 1080i setting, which is best at de-interlacing.


Don't have a 480i/576i output on the 983.

From what I have read,most people let the Kuro do the upsampling-is that correct?


So is sending a 480i signal via HDMI important?

I have a 151 and a 983. My wife and I watched several movies this weekend and alternated 480p and 1080p signals. It was very hard to tell the difference between the player and the 151 upscaling. I think the 983 does a slightly better job, some scenes looked a little crisper, but honestly it was hard to tell.
