One of the most important aspects of any movie when viewed in a home theater is the visual effects. After all, which Blu-ray do you pull out to demonstrate your system to friends and family? Often, it's the one with the coolest visual effects. This year's Academy Award nominees for Best Visual Effects are all outstanding in that regard, but which one do you think is most home-theater worthy?

I voted for the Hobbit even though I haven't seen it yet. I did, however, see Gravity, Star Trek, Iron Man 3, and the Lone Ranger and none of them blew me away the way Avatar did in regards to visuals. I mean really, how many times are you gonna watch Gravity? I've seen Star Trek several times and thoroughly enjoyed it, the visuals, sound, and casting are great but again it didn't blow me away.

An expert opinion! Why even have polls if this is an example of a vote

Gravity has a bodged home release so shouldn't really be considered and the hobbit 2 has yet to be released so once again doesn't really make sense to vote on how good it is as we do not know if the transfer is any good. Of those above I would say Star Trek is the best. Though the best blu-ray for showing of/testing your ht would have to be oblivion.

I didn't vote because I havn't seen all the movies on the list. However, I would have to agree that Oblivion should be on this list....Star Trek Into Darkness does have some great visuals as well.

Oblivion was omitted from this list because it wasn't nomited in the Best Visual Effects category. Now, if there was a cetegory for Best Visual Quality, then Oblivion would lead the pack.  Every second of that movie is reference video quality.

Am I just now realizing that Pacific Rim didn't get a visual effects nomination? The special effects category has been such a joke the past few years. I'm no Transformers fanboy but the first movie got completely gypped when it was skipped over for the win.
