Currently I'm using:

Sony 333ES receiver for Pre-Amp

Earthquake 5 channel Cinenova Grande Amp

B&W Matrix 805's for front 3 channels

NHT surrounds

Sunfire True Subwoofer MK II

Panasonic DVD Player (not progressive for my Analog TV)

Sony VCR that just sits there collecting dust 99% of the time

Sony DirecTIVO SAT-T60 35 hour

Mitsubishi 45" Analog RPTV

Marantz RC5000 remote

mostly Monster Interconnects and cabling.

I've been wanting a new Pre-Pro ever since I got the Cinenova however finances have been tight. I can now spend about $2000 and have been thinking about a used Lex. MC-1. My usage habits are:

70% DirecTIVO

20% DVD's

10% Music

I'm open to suggestions, I haven't auditioned the Lex however it has such a great reputation I'm considering it seriously and yes I know this is foolish.

Please let me know what your recommendations are.

As you are a heavy non 2-channel guy, I think a used MC-1 is a tremendous piece.

You can probably snag one at Audiogon for $1800.

I think the MC-1 is about at the rock-bottom of its depreciation curve.

You can buy it, enjoy it, and not worry about how much it is losing in the next year.

Roger,

Given your usage pattern, a $2000 pre/pro is a waste of money. A better way to go would be to use a mid-fi receiver with all the latest HT modes and video capabilities as a pre-pro into your amp. A Denon 3803 might fit the bill nicely. With the $1000 saved, you can upgrade some of your other system components with much greater effect. Good luck.

Williak has a good point too.

I have used both a Denon AVR-3801 and an Onkyo TX-DS989 as processors-only feeding an EAD PM2000 amp.

A new Denon AVR-3803 will be

The MC-1 is a good choice at that price point, which is what I did, but using the receiver as suggested may also work for you.
