Which receiver is best with DefTech speakers?

883 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Lanfear
I need some help choosing a receiver for this system. I definitely want a receiver with 1080p HDMI switching. My local A/V store is recommending a Denon recevier as the first choice for DefTech speakers, with a second choice to go with Yamaha. I got to listen to both the Denon and Yamaha receivers in a sound room, but I couldn't really hear any difference. Sound is difficult to compare. They both sound good. So at this point I've narrowed it down to these receivers.

Denon AVR-2807

Denon AVR-2307CI

Yamaha RX-V661

Yamaha RX-V861

Speakers

DefTech Mythos Two (Left, Right)

DefTech Mythos Eight (Center)

DefTech Mythos Gems (Left/Right surrounds)

DefTech SuperCube 2

Any help would be appreciated!

As you stated, you could not hear any difference. Solidstate AVR's that are designed to have a flat freq response from 20hz to 20khz won't sound different, unless your introducing one of the special EQ, tone, or DSP functions that come with many AVR's.

I would go with one of the Denon's as long as it has the Audyssey MultEQ setup, which right now is the best in the business.

What is Audyssey MultEQ setup? Is this an automatic configuration feature?

Thanks,

yes, and from what I see you can equalize/optimize up to 6 seating positions.

The Denon 2807 got really bad reviews regarding the instructions manual and on screen set up. I mean, how bad could it be? I am a computer programmer, so I'm hoping that will give me an edge :)

Just out of curiosity, where did you buy your speakers from? I'm planning on picking up the Mythos set as well.
