Which receiver should I go with from Cox?

They gave me this Explorer 4642HDC, from the looks of it this is a pretty old model, the menu guides look like absolute pixelated garbage. The HD signal doesn't even look that clear to be honest, you can see the pixels on those as well.

Does anyone know what model I should be looking to get when I go into the store to exchange it? I want the HD menus and the best picture possible with Cox.

If I need to I will just go buy a Tivo Roamio or something, but one of the perks with renting the box is you are supposed to be able to upgrade your box to the most current technology free of charge since you are renting equipment. I had no idea how bad this box was until I got home and hooked it all up.

Here is a list of the boxes Cox offers, which one should I ask for?

All of those have the same ancient interface. Get a Tivo or use WMC (better than Tivo, IMO, and cheaper). However, nothing can improve the picture except a different service, like DirecTV.
I am ok with the picture, I just want to get rid of the ancient interface. What is WMC?

Uses your PC as a DVR. Works with a regular remote like Tivo or other DVR, but no subscription fees, unlimited storage, whole home functionality, plus does everything a PC can do. I use a $150 PC to push live and recorded TV to 6 TVs using a 6 tuner Ceton InfiniTV ETH and Ceton Echoes throughout, essentially for free ($2 cable card fee on my cable system). Very nice, feature rich interface. Saves me over a grand per year in DVR and equipment fees.

WMC = Windows Media Centre
(Spell it out first, then use acronyms ;))

I don't use it but I've heard a lot of people swear by it for television viewing.

The 4642HDC is the newest they have, unless they have recently added the 4742HDC. All of the units that start with 8 or 9 are DVRs.

Chances are a bad line is causing your picture problems. Pixelation is rarely a receiver problem. Who did your wiring? Any splitters being used? Are they 1GHz splitters. You can try exchanging your receiver for another 4642HDC, or ask [email protected] to schedule you a quick service call.
