Which Scaler should I use for the X1?

Should I

Use the internal scaler of the X1 using the S-video

or

Use the progressive scaler in my Kenwood DV-5900M scaler that is the Foroujda chipset using component

or

Get an Iscan Pro?

The argument is that when the scaling is done by the DVD player, it is done in the digital domain avoiding a digital to analog conversion.

This is one case where you should let your eye be the Judge, since the X1 also has the Foroujda chipset, you could do just as well.

I've simple been using the S-video to mine and I have been VERY happy with the results.

F-a-r-o-u-d-j-a ...sorry....but you knew what we were talking about :)
Hmm interesting because I've heard that the iScan Pro uses a better scaler than the Faroudja chip.
why not try the X1 by itself and see what you think ?

Exactly, trying that costs next to nothing to try.
It's okay I've tried direct S-Video and awaiting component video cable. I was just curious if anyone has an Iscan Pro that they are using in conjunction with the X1
I suspect when you ask about scalers you are actually asking about a combination of deinterlacing and scaling. And when it comes to the X1, the distinction is important if you want to be accurate.

The X1 has both a Faroudja chip and a Pixelworks chip. Both of these chips have the capability to do BOTH the deinterlacing AND scaling. The X1 splits the tasks (presumably assigning each chip the task that it does best) and uses the Faroudja for deinterlacing and the Pixelworks for scaling.
