I currently have a Yamaha HTR 5890 feeding 5 ascend speakers. The weather is starting to warm up where i live. As of lately I have had to raise the volume up more than normal and also notice the AVR feeling warmer than usual.

I was in the market to purchase a 2 channel amp to power my L/R mains to help ease the load on the AVR. Well I have found a friend of a friend who is selling an Adcom 2535 which can run my Center and Rears.

Should I get a 2 channel amp for the mains or the adcom 2535 to run the center and rears?

Centers demand lots of power, I like to give it twice the power of my L/R's....

Best case? 2 channel for L/R and a big mena mono block for the center.

Almost as good? A 4 channel amp where you could bridge 2 channels for center duty

Better than what you have for sure" A 3 channel amp where the L/R/C would all be on a dedicated amp. I am close to putting a 400watt mono block / or stereo amp bridged on my center channel. It is really the one that needs it in HT.

Best of luck.

My Budget is only $250 at the moment. I only have space for one power amp and the adcom 3 channel amp that I am looking it will have a 200 watt channel for the center and 2 x 60 watt channels to run my surrounds. As much as I would like to run all 3 fronts with this I don't think the 60 watt is enough for dynamics for my L/R mains.

My other choice was a second hand 2 channel parasound to just run the L/R/ mains.

I am kind of leaning at the moment towards the adcom 2535 because it will be able to run my center and only the rears.

Any other feedback would be appreciated.

IMO you should get a 5 (equal) channel amp, but the 3 is better than what you have now.

My ideal would actually having a 3 channel amp to run my center and mains since they are all identical. Those dedicated 3 channels amps are pricey so I might as well get a 5 channel as you suggest but I would still go over my budget. As far as watts go... what should I be looking for? I thought I read some where that your speakers don't even run that high, maybe during dynamics.

I know the 125 watt rating for my AVR is not very accurate but do you think an external 5 channel 100 watt help if I play my system loud?
