I vote for the Sammy PN50B850... and then go into the service menu and make it an 860.

We just paid a lot less for the 58B650 than you have listed for the 58B540. It's a spectacular set so far (We've had it since January 12th) and with the Panasonic rising blacks problem, I would highly recommend Samsung instead! We were going to buy the Panny first until we noticed it didn't have internet (we're Youtube fans) and we would had to settle price-wise on the S1 for 58 inch or the G10 for 54 inch. We really wanted the 58, sooo...

Check with Cleveland Plasma for the 58B650, they have a good price on it!

Edit: I can not brain tonight, I have the dumb! I just noticed you said Canada, sorry.

Sammy has their own issues too. Watch out for buzzers!

OP, why not wait for the 2010 displays?

I just read a report that the buzzers account for around 30%. Ours doesn't buzz. I read in one forum also that Samsung has their techs putting a piece of foam inside the cabinet so that the buzz can't resonate. Don't know if it works though, I haven't read anything back from someone who had it done.

i can pick the 850 up and if it's a buzzer i'll just return it, and if it's not a buzzer ill turn it to a 860.

oh and i'd wait for 2010 .. but they are going to me more money? and i live in Canada so i'll get the 2010 models in 2021.. laugh.. :*(

unless the projected 2010 models are going to be much better (new tech) if it's just new shinny bezels and carbon fiber stands.. then there's not much point in waiting.. it's just i have a stack of blu's that i've been dying to watch since i sold my 46" sharp aquos 6 months ago.

I honestly will take panasonic's track record for great products and reliability even with slight rises in black levels over samsung's terrible record for not only reliability but customer service

in the end its your money to spend but IMHO Panasonic is better than Samsung in the long run with any product.

I give the edge on the PQ on the Samsung, but you're taking chances on the buzzing issue...I just bought a 2010 Samsung plasma, and had to return it, a real hornet's nest...for more info check out the thread on the Sammy buzz issues...
